Festival strategy and international film sales.Liliana Bravo Bitar, film consultant since 1998.

Video transcript (English translation)

Have you finished your film and don’t know where to start? Have you ever submitted to the wrong festival? Or did you think that, if your film was good, a platform like Netflix would want it, and it didn’t?

It’s not about quality, it’s about fit. This industry has two sides that hardly ever talk to each other: the one that makes films and the one that decides what gets bought and programmed. And very often nobody explains those rules before you make the mistake: you submit where you shouldn’t, or you expect from a platform something only a festival can give you.

I’m Liliana, from Vicky Liliana Barcelona. I’ve been in the film industry for more than 25 years and I’ve worked on both sides: production and sales. I know how a festival programmer thinks and how a buyer thinks.

With one look at your film, together with my team, I can tell which festivals it should go to, what poster it needs and what it’s missing before you take the next step. It’s a complete consultancy: we analyse its real potential and tell you, honestly, which way to go. And if you want to go further, we support you through the whole process: outreach, negotiation and sale.

Sound familiar?

  • You’ve finished your film and don’t know where to start.
  • You’ve already submitted to the wrong festival.
  • You thought that, if your film was good, a platform like Netflix would want it, and it didn’t.
  • Nobody explained the rules to you before you made the mistake.

It’s not about quality. It’s about fit.No es un tema de calidad, es un tema de encaje.

What I do

I work on two levels. The second includes the first.

Level 1

Film assessment and advice

I watch your film through the same eyes as a festival programmer or a buyer would: the feature, the script, the poster, the synopsis and the sales materials. I give you an honest diagnosis of its real potential, the festivals and territories where it makes sense to position it, and what needs adjusting before you take the next step.

Level 2

Advice + full support

Everything in level 1, plus:

  • I connect you with buyers, agencies and festivals.
  • I negotiate on your behalf.
  • I support you throughout the whole sales process.

I also work for the other side: screenings for distributors, platforms and festivals, plus communications and press at festivals.

How we work

Book your session

Tell me the basics of your project in a short form and book 30 minutes in my calendar.

Analysis

I watch your film and your sales materials and give you my honest diagnosis: potential, festivals, territories.

You decide

If you want, I’ll support you through the whole sales and negotiation process. If you’d rather carry on by yourself, you leave with a clear map of how to do it.

About me

I’ve been in the film industry since 1998, on both sides: I’ve produced, worked at festivals and markets, taught, and worked in development, sales and distribution. Today I stand right between the two worlds, and that double perspective is the advantage I bring you.

How we choose projects

Every project we take on gets our full attention. That’s why, before we start, we analyse your film and assess honestly whether the timing is right and whether we are the right team.

It’s a fit if:

  • Your film is finished or a well-advanced work in progress.
  • The chain of title is cleared.
  • You want to hear a real diagnosis, even if it’s not the one you were hoping for.
  • You see the assessment of your film as an investment.

Frequently asked questions

If your film has potential, yes: a good strategy avoids festival submissions that don’t fit and expectations that won’t be met. And if it doesn’t, it’s better to know before investing more time and money.

No. I don’t acquire titles for a catalogue or keep the rights to your film: I tell you what you have on your hands and, if you want, I help you sell it.

Consulting projects are tailored to the time and complexity of each film. Tell us about your project in the form and we’ll send you a quote.

The film or the work in progress, the script if you have one, the poster, the synopsis and the sales materials.

Yes. I work in Spanish, English, French and German.

Tell me about your project

Before the meeting I need to know the basics of your project. That way we make the most of the 30 minutes.

Meetings from 12:00 to 20:00 CET.
